A Reminder to parents:
While bedwetting can be a symptom of an underlying disease, the large majority of children who wet the bed have no underlying disease. In fact, a true organic cause is identified in only about 1% of children who wet the bed. However, this does not mean that the child who wets the bed can control it or is doing it on purpose. Children who wet the bed are not lazy, willful, or disobedient.
The only thing that will make the bed wetting issue worse is getting angry and punishing your child. Bed wetting can destroy a child’s self esteem and adding to this humiliation by
punishing and scolding will only make matters worse.
Resources for Teens & Parents:
There are some really good sites on the web for information on both night and day wetting as well as really BAD sites with wrong, mis-directed, or self-serving information. The ones below are a few of the really good ones.
ERIC - the UK’s only childhood continence charity
United Kingdom NHS - Bedwetting
U.S. Depart Of Health & Human Services - Urinary Incontinence in Children
